January 2011

Unfortunately I was in hospital again in December only to discover that I have blood clots on my lungs again. I am waiting for the results of tests which may well show that I have developed an auto immune disorder which is causing these clots. I am now on medication for life and have to start the receovery all over again!

Nutwood Streetmusic has been sold to Debbie who has helped show the horses in hand over the past few years. He has moved to Wiltshire to keep another foal company. Deb is hoping to travel the world this year, so she may not be around to show this year.

Nutwood Kinglet has been backed and now he is turned away while we wait for better weather! Nutwood Impressionist is also backed and is entered for her first dressge test later this month. She has taken to ridden work like a duck to water and we hope to do some ridden sport horse classes with her this year.

I am looking forward to this season as we will have both ridden and in hand horses for 2011, and I do enjoy seeing the horses I have bred doing a job.

September 2010
The show season is coming to a close and considering I started late and slowly we have had a reasonably good season, well, good and bad, I suppose!  Nutwood Mimic, by Trifolio out of Nutwood Impressionist, ended the season by winning at New Forest Show, Edenbridge & Oxted and the National Hunter show. In fact he won the Millyn Cup for the best foal by a TB stallion at the Hunter Show, which is a real achievement as Trifolio is often considered to be a hack or riding horse stallion.

Nutwood Theatrical finished with a 2nd at the BSHA Championships in the 2yr old hack class, however the judge felt she may end up more of a riding horse. Our new mare True Rockette also went to this show for an outing and she was 3rd in the Riding Horse broodmare, despite being a hunter really!

The 3 broodmares (Shabby Lady, Nutwood Impressionist and Nutwood Exhibitionist) have all been placed at every show and none of them are in foal for next year as I have the new mare for next season and Rowlands Jewel is in foal to Trifolio for 2011.

Jane Townsend from Classictop Stud and I are off to HOYS to see some of Trifolio's progeny in their hack classes. A new novice hack by him called Abbeys Finale has done well in her first year, and I wish her and her owners well for 2011. I also met Encore, a grey mare by Trifolio at Equifest this year, She was reserve champion riding horse, two days in a row and looked a picture. She is owned by Kathryn Pitt.

I entered a progeny group at this years SHB GB Show at Addingon in September and the group came second. I was thrilled as Trifolio has not had sufficient horses to do this class for many years, and we hope to do it again in 2011.

July 2010
We have continued to have a slow season due to my health. I am getting better, but too slowly for my liking! However, we did manage to go to NPS Area 20 in June with Nutwood Kinglet (Tigger) who won the hunter youngstock and was reserve champion, and Nutwood Theatrical (Thimble) who was 2nd in the hack youngstock and also went reserve champion, qualifying for the new Martin Wood In Hand championship at the BSHA Champs in September. I missed the Festival of the Horse as Nutwood Exhibitionist (Cameo) had put her foot through the fence and had a big leg! Typical of horses!! However, we did get to Kent County Show and Cameo was 1st Sports Horse Broodmare, and we had to return for the Cuddy qualifier on the Saturday. She was also 3rd in the Hunter Broodmare class. Nutwood Impressionist and her foal went to New Forest Show and she was 2nd Hunter Broodmare and her foal was 1st in the hunter foal and 2nd in the Sport horse foal.

Despite the very low rainfall we still have grass, although it does not look inviting to eat as it is dry and tough. The horses are eating it and they look very well. I compare our situation with people I know and I think I am lucky. Many of my friends are already feeding hay or haylage.

May 2010

Both Grumble and Polly have scanned in foal, due 1st April 2011. Polly is in foal to Trifolio and Grumble to One More Tiger.

We have had a slow start to the show season, due to my ongoing health problems. We did however, manage to get to Surrey County where Cameo won the Hunter Broodmare class and Crissie was second. For the foal class the positions were swopped - Crissies foal won.

The next show was Suffolk County, where Deb and Kate went without me as I was in hospital for the day. They had a good day with Tigger coming 2nd in the small hunter youngstock class and Crissies foal coming 2nd in the Sports Horse Broodmare class and her foal winning his class. I am recovering, but too slowly for my patience!

Porric, the yearling has been sold to Kate Good, who helps at shows and at home. I am hoping for good things for both of them in the future.

Kylie Hill, who kept ponies here with us for sixteen years, has returned to us with two of her ponies to stay while she finds a permanent yard to rent. The ponies have caused great excitement with the youngsters who have not been off the stud! The black Shetland is now best friends with Thimble and Kitty, the 2 year old fillies.  We are also preparing for the arrival of our first two foals due in mid March. Shabby Lady and Rose Morgan are due on the same day, so we could have our work cut out!  The yearling “Spyro” who has been resident this winter as company for Nutwood Pearly King, is about to be gelded, so cross fingers everything goes well.
